Have you ever noticed that fresh squeezed orange juice from the supermarket is almost twice as expensive for 1 litre as it is for 2 litres?
I can't drink more than a litre in the recommended 4 - 5 days from opening - it's just a waste to buy a 2 litre bottle. But why the hell does it cost the same to buy 1 litre as it does to buy two litres? Sure packaging in bulk saves manufacturers cost (packaging, pruduction, transport), but this is hardly "bulk". This is really shitting me at the moment, as I quite like orange juice with breakfast, and I think it's really unfair of supermarkets to price a product in this way. And I refuse to pay twice the price because I'm buying less of a product. Coles and Woolworths, you're just losing sales. And FU. Whilst we're talking about fast food outlets, what gives with the price of post-mix soft drinks?
I understand the need to make profits to stay in business, but is it really essential to the business model to gouge your customers with a 3000% margin on a bit of flavoured sugar syrup and carbonated water? There is one fast food chain in this country that used to offer free refills when you purchased a drink with your meal. What a nice idea. The cost of providing post-mix drinks is pretty negligible, and the customer served themselves so labour costs for this are almost non-existent. It just highlights how excessive the price of a soft drink is at these places if they were able to do this. Fast food right? We're all guilty of it from time to time. Maybe it's the "it's been a long day and I just couldn't be screwed" factor. Or the simple guilty pleasure of something that you know is not good for you but is utterly delicious in a "heart attack on a plate" sort of way.
But how often have you gotten home after a trip through the drive through to find that your order has been woefully and ineptly fulfilled? Does this really make you feel peeved? How hard can it be to put together a fast food order? Particularly in a big franchise situation where the order is displayed on a screen and everything is process driven down to the nth degree. I once got home to find that my chicken burger from a well known international purveyor of such items contained NO CHICKEN. For f*cks sake! How do you wrap up what is supposed to be a chicken burger and put it with the order without actually putting in the CHICKEN part? Not even a whiff of chicken - burger, fillet, patty, tenderloin, strip, finger or otherwise - just lettuce and mayo between two soft buns. |

But then maybe I'm just a grumpy old fart who refuses to accept that my position of institutionalised privilege gives me no right to complain or feel outrage on behalf all members of our society? You can make up your own mind about that. Archives
